Janis Joplin: Pearl

One of my uncle’s most recent batch of CDs, and a new discovery which is likely to become compulsory listening for the next few months. I wasn’t at all familiar with Joplin before, but she’s a real revelation. This album is a gorgeous blend of rock, blues and jazz, all overlaid with her amazingly vulnerable, gravelly voice. At the moment I’m still blown away by the album as a whole and can’t judge it in any detail, but I don’t think there’s a weak link on it.
