The Darkness: Permission to Land
This was my first autumn at university and I Believe in a Thing called Love was everywhere. I think it must have been played at every single bop, along with Summer of ’69 and Chesney Hawkes’s One and Only, and always provoked lots of mad bouncing while singing along in a tuneless fashion. I bought the album out of a misplaced desire to be seen listening to cool music. What I completely failed to gather was that The Darkness were never cool. That’s why it was such classic bop music. I’ve still got a rather Spinal-Tap-shaped soft spot for them.
