Savage Garden: Affirmation

I came late to Savage Garden’s first album but, with the passion of the new convert, bought the second as soon as it came out. Then, being fourteen or fifteen, I thought them very profound, earnest and emotionally powerful. Throughout the first half of 2000 Affirmation was on repeat on my stereo and on the radio stations. In particular, Crash and Burn reminds me of my language exchange to Vienna at Easter of that year: even here the song was on the radio most days, a reassuring note of familiarity in an exotic world. My exchange partner caught the bug from me and Savage Garden became one of the recurrent features of our meetings.
